In our effort to increase the capacity of HCV Assessors in the region, the HCV Assessors Training Course will provide the necessary knowledge for individuals who will be conducting HCV assessments as part of their professional work. Successful completion of this course will be one of the prerequisites for demonstrating basic competency for conducting, evaluating and report writing on HCV assessments as per the HCV Resource Network requirements. Leveraging on years of experience and expertise of Wild Asia trainers, this course will include interactive sessions and case study exercises.

Wild Asia as a recognized organisation by the HCV Resource Network, has designed this course according to the HCV Resource Network syllabus to allow participants to go through the steps involved in an HCV assessment and apply the concepts and procedures according to the HCV Assessment Manual.

Course Overview

This course is divided into two parts:

  • Part One – Online. A series of HCV foundation courses will be made available online to cover the basic knowledge required to understand the six HCVs and their indicators to identify the values. These include:
    1. HCV background and concepts
    2. HCV Process
    3. HCVs 1-6
    4. Introduction of ALS
  • Part Two – Practical. A physical classroom session which will focus on case studies and practical exercises to create a mock public summary report. The mock public summary report could be submitted to the HCV Resource Network when applying as an assessor. There will be a written examination at the end of the course and the results will be recorded by the HCV Resource Network.

All participants must pass the online courses prior to attending the classroom session to demonstrate that they have the basic understanding and knowledge of the six HCVs and related subjects.

The course will be conducted in English.

Course Requirements


Participants should already be familiar with the HCV approach or should have already been team members of HCV assessments including relevant experience in biodiversity, ecology, community livelihoods, anthropology, GIS and conservation planning, natural resource auditing and management, social and environmental impact assessment, among other subjects.
